The victory secured Bangladesh's first T20 series win over West Indies in six years, taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

The India-Pakistan hockey rivalry has lost its sheen in recent times. Hockey in Pakistan has been in a freefall for the last decade or so while Indians have made a tremendous comeback in the same time period. The two countries used to rule world hockey at one point and the seeds for it were sown during the British rule in India.

The team led by Ammad Butt, finally secured their first victory with a 2-1 win over Japan and then delivered a decisive 5-1 win against China, to enter the semi-finals. Their final pool match ended in a narrow 2-1 loss to India.

The result came after the tourists posted just 129-7 in their innings, with man-of-the-match Shamim top-scoring with an unbeaten 35. Despite their modest score, they were able to defend it to earn a historic victory.

"I always think that whatever situation the team is in, if I play well, we'll reach a decent total. I always have the positive thinking," Shamim told reporters after the game at St Vincent on Wednesday.

"I played well in HP (high performance), emerging team and wherever I played and that's why I was confident of doing well. [I'm] happy that I could play well, my family and the country are happy too.

"We won T20 series in West Indies and that's a huge achievement," he said.

Along with the performance of Shamim, Bangladesh were also indebted to their bowlers, who managed to skittle West Indies for just 102 runs. Taskin Ahmed finished with figures of 3-16, while three others claimed two wickets each, with Roston Chase (32) one of just two batsmen to make it over 15 runs.

For Shamim, the result marks an impressive comeback, having only played his first senior international game in a year in the first T20 game of the series. He maintained that he maintained a positive outlook during his time in the wilderness and is now keen to look forward and not back.

"I don't think that much [on when he would make a comeback] and I just tried to keep a positive mindset and stay happy," he said.

"I was confident I would make a comeback," he said, adding that he has not given missing the T20 World Cup any thought. "What's gone is gone," he said.

Having now made his return to international cricket, Shamim let people know that there was plenty more to come from him.

"This is just the beginningm I have a long way to go. Let's see," he said. "I'm currently working on my fitness and working on my batting as wellgojackpot," he concluded.
